I have closed the phone app few times when trying to ansver incoming call. Instead of swipe down middle of the screen I have swiped from upside of screen and killed the phone app.

Agree. I am also struggling with answering the phone each time when it is not connected to my car's hands-free :-) It really feels "artificial" to me to answer the call by swiping down.
